Thanks for everyone's help with the BYU fundraiser as well as the Winter Concert.  Pictures of both events are now posted on the right hand side of the blog under Pages - 2014 BYU Fundraiser and 2014 Winter Concert.

Ballroom Winter Concert

Don't miss the ballroom concert tonight at Lone Peak High School.  Tickets are $5 for students, $6 for adults and $20 for immediate family members.  Each single ticket purchased will receive 1 raffle ticket and a family ticket purchased will receive 4 raffle tickets.  Additional raffle tickets can be purchased: $5 for 1 ticket, $10 for 3 tickets, $20 for 7 tickets and $50 for 20 tickets.  The more you buy, the more chances you have to win one of several fabulous prizes!

There will be a Silent Auction bidding from 6:00 - 7:00 pm.  At intermission there will be 15 minutes for final bidding of auction items.

There will be 3 raffle sessions in between performance numbers.  The final one will be at the end of the concert and will feature our grand prize - a Thomas Kinkade Victorian Christmas print.

Parent Meeting

There will be a parent meeting on Wednesday, September 24 at 6:15 pm in the small gym.  We will be discussing the spring tour and hold a parent vote.

Welcome Back!

Our first activity will be Saturday, August 16.  Meet at the Lone Peak small gym at 9:00.  Bring ballroom shoes if you have them, otherwise bring tennis shoes.  You need to be in dance clothes - no tank tops, no shirts that show your stomach, and NO jeans!  Make sure you also bring water and snacks because we will be there until 3:00.

That night we will have our opening social at Victoria Mikkelson's home.  If you need her address or your food assignment, check the ballroom Facebook page.  If you are not yet a member of that page, send an email to ballroomLPHS@gmail.com.

Summer is a great time to get your ballroom shoes so you will be ready to dance on the first day of school.  There are many places to purchase ballroom shoes and dancewear.  This is a partial listing of some local businesses.  This list is provided for your convenience and should not be considered any endorsement of these businesses or their products.

2014-2015 ballroom tryouts

Tryouts for the 2014-2015 ballroom team will be held on Wednesday, March 19 and Thursday, March 20 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm in the small gym.  Tryouts will be open to all students that will be in 9th - 12th grade next school year.

Wednesday will begin at 4:00 pm with a parent meeting that will last approximately 30 minutes.  All parents and students wishing to tryout are strongly encouraged to attend.  After the meeting, students will stay to learn and practice a couple of dance numbers.  Guys are encouraged to wear a dance shoe or a church shoe.  Girls should wear a dance shoe or a shoe with a heel.

Thursday tryouts will begin at 4:00 pm  in the small gym.  Guys should wear church pants, white shirt and tie with a dance shoe or church shoe.  NO SNEAKERS!  Girls should wear a skirt - preferably black - that does not go all the way to the floor.  Girls should wear a dance shoe or a shoe with a heel and have their hair pulled back.

Next year the ballroom class will be held during A1 (7:45 - 8:55 on Mondays and 7:45 - 9:09 the other days).  Those that need to travel back to other schools after class will be let out early so they can change and make it back to their school on time.  There will be some early morning practices on A days, so if you are scheduling early morning seminary or other early morning classes, schedule those for B days.

Provo High School Dancesport Championships

Congratulations to the Lone Peak High School Ballroom team!  They took the State award for the Youth Large Group Showdance in the High School division, 2nd place in Youth Large Group Showdance and 3rd place in Youth Latin Medley.  They competed against some really tough teams but held their own!  Pictures can be found on the right side of the blog under Pages.  You guys did awesome!
